Shammah Nicholls' Ryder Shines in Charity Golf Tournament

The winning team featured Leanne Ryder – consultant solicitor at Shammah Nicholls – and the day was organised by Regency Factors in support of the Gene Machine charity, which raises money for the Haematology Department at Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI).

Leanne played in a team alongside Jacqui Fenton, a manager from Price Waterhouse Coopers, Lynda Williams and Carole Barrow, who was also the team captain and has supported the Gene Machine for some time. Playing as ‘The Ladies', the foursome emerged victorious with a final score of 86. The victory was made even sweeter as they were the only ladies taking part in the golf competition.

Leanne said: "Everyone in the team played really well and we were so pleased to not only win the competition, but also add support to a very important charity."

She added: "As the only ladies taking part in the competition, it was a sweet moment when we beat the team that's held the title for the last two years. The victory shield will certainly take pride of place in the Shammah Nicholls offices for six months, before going to Price Waterhouse Coopers for the rest of the year."

Whilst golf was the focal point of the charity event, there were also many other fundraising activities being held throughout the day. The businessman – and former Manchester City player – Fred Eyre hosted the evening's fundraising, which included an auction and a raffle. Overall, the charity day raised £3000 for the Gene Machine charity.

The charity was established, and continues to be run, by Hilary Craft, who is also a director of Regency Factors – the successful invoice finance company. The Gene Machine charity purchases specialist equipment for the Haematology Department at the MRI. It is currently in the second year of a three-year campaign aimed at raising £50,000 a year to fund a research scientist for the department. The specialist will look into the biology of CLL (chronic lymphatic leukaemia), how it interacts with other cells and ways to make the treatment more effective. In addition, they will also research other cancers and associated treatments.
